Day #9 - Final Day!

Image
Arrived and toured Pompei. Simply amazing. Know for it’s brothels and wine-it was also a central   location for trade of breads and meats as it was close to the sea. To learn what happened to this town and how advanced it was in terms of villas, stores, theaters, main square, temples, and infrastructure-all with the volcano in the background looming. Just blows your mind to be able to walk the streets that are over 2,000 years old. Also viewing the frescos was awesome. Some still very much intact after the devastation and being buried for over 1,500 years. Then we trekked over to the Herculaneum archaeological site. During the same eruption from Mt Vesuvius, this village was frozen in time from effect of the pyroclastic heat of the eruption then the buried by the lava flow. This site was more preserved. You can see more details on the frescos on the walls, the charred remains of where there was wood structures and the replication of where they found human remains. Both sites were ...

Day # 8

We began the day by driving up the Amalfi Coast toward Amalfi, a beautiful western coast facing town that is famous for its lemon and other citrus exports. The road there was insanely narrow, our bus scarcely squeezing around corners and other cars. In Amalfi, we hiked up the hillside toward the vast lemon farms where we had the Amalfi Lemon Experience. Owning almost 10% of the land in Amalfi, the family operated farms grow huge acres of lemon trees fed by the complex stone architecture and various pollination from bee hives (We had to be super quiet as not to scare them!). There we tried lemonade and lemon cake made from the lemons which were super yummy! Many of the lemons were completely edible, rind and all, with a slightly less sour taste than traditional  Kanin, Emerson, Aven, Kailani

We arrived in Sicily excited to start the day, then we got on a bus and went to Palermo. In Palermo, we saw the cathedral of Monreale which was huge! And after that we walked around touring various other places. We saw the capella palantina, the palazzo dei normanni, and the Palermo cathedral. Afterwards there was free time to explore so we ate at a fun restaurant and got gelato! Overall the day was very good. Aven, Rhianna, Reed, Paxton
